We spend a lot of time in our own heads. I specialize in helping you identify your unhelpful self-talk and learn powerful and positive new ways to see yourself in the world. The way you talk to yourself can be helpful, energizing and get you where you want to go in life.
Your Thoughts Affect Your Feelings
I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based approach that teaches you new ways of responding to challenges. Research shows that CBT is especially beneficial for decreasing depression, overcoming anxiety, improving low self-esteem, undoing unhealthy habits, and repairing relationships.
We will work on understanding how your thoughts affect your behaviors and feelings. We'll set goals and track your progress towards meeting them. In each session, we'll take a close look at a difficult moment and get familiar with your habitual thought patterns. Then, I will teach you evidenced based techniques to help you develop new ways of thinking and responding. This approach can help you leave old habits behind and bring about positive change.
I have a very collaborative approach. We measure how you are doing every session to make sure you are feeling better.
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist who works with adults and teens online in the state of California. I have extensive training in CBT (including advanced training with Dr. David Burns, author of Feeling Good and Feeling Great) and am a certified level 3 TEAM therapist with the Feeling Good Institute. Dr. Burns is one of the founders of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and has dedicated his life to researching and teaching effective and innovative therapy approaches. I also integrate Positive Psychology to help you build optimism, gratitude and know your strengths. Additionally, I utilize Solution Focused Brief Therapy to help you uncover your strengths and hidden solutions. My undergraduate degree is in Women's Studies from Penn State University and my graduate degree is from Saint Mary's College.
